Flu vaccine now available to all
Friday, 24 April 2020Being vaccinated against the flu means your body will be able to respond faster and more effectively to fight the flu. Although you can still get the flu after being vaccinated, you usually will get only a mild form and recover faster. You are also much less likely to have serious complications.
How much will it cost?
- Enrolled patients: For patients enrolled with either Local Doctors, White Cross, or East Tamaki Healthcare, the price is $19.
- Non enrolled: For people not enrolled with us, the cost is $30.
- Special needs groups: The flu vaccine is FREE for people who are considered more likely to get seriously sick with the flu. If you are enrolled with us, and fall into these groups, you should have already been contacted by your clinic. These groups include:
- Pregnant women (any trimester)
- People aged 65 years and older
- People of any age with chronic conditions such as COPD, diabetes, lung or heart conditions, and some other illnesses
- Children aged under 5 who have been hospitalised for the illness, respiratory conditions, (including measles), illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness.
How long will it take?
In most cases, you don't need to wait afterward so the process is very quick. A few minutes.
A small number of patients will be asked to wait for twenty minutes afterward to ensure there is no reaction to the injection. Mostly these people can wait in their car.
Where can I get vaccinated?
All our 40+ clinics can offer flu vaccinations. Keep in mind, many of our clinics are open 8am to 8pm 7 days per week for your convenience. Two clinics operate 24/7.
You don't have to be enrolled with us, but the price is much lower if you are.
You don't need to make an appointment. However, with our White Cross clinics, we advise calling first as they mostly deal with accident and emergency cases and have to take more urgent cases first.
Just click on the Local Doctors logo on the top of your screen to find the clinic nearest to you.
All our clinics have special safety procedures in place.
