Thank you to all of our wonderful Nurses, this International Nurses Day
Wednesday, 12 May 2021All around the world, today is the day that we celebrate the kind and hardworking Nurses that work long shifts, approach each day with care and compassion and put their all into keeping our patients and community safe and healthy.
Today, we took the time to acknowledge all of the work our Nurses throughout Tāmaki Health, White Cross and Local Doctors do and say a genuine thank you.
It's a special time for celebration for integral people that make up our Tāmaki family too, with International Nurses Day (12th) and International Receptionists Day (14th) falling within the same week.
To celebrate and show our gratitude, some delicious fruit boxes arrived at all of our individual clinics as a surprise this morning.
The History behind the 12th of May Nurses Day Celebration
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.
Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English, social reformer, statistician, and founder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. Nightingale was dubbed “The Lady with the Lamp” because of her habit of making rounds at night.
On this day, we raise awareness of all Nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role Nurses play in society.
