Travel well: get protected before you fly

Heading overseas? Whether it’s for a family reunion, a big holiday, work trip, or something in between, a bit of health prep can make all the difference. From common travel bugs to serious diseases like yellow fever, the last thing you want is to get sick while you're away.

At Local Doctors and White Cross clinics, we can help you tick off your travel health checklist with expert advice, relevant vaccinations, and personalised guidance—so you can focus on the fun parts of the trip.

What we offer

Not all countries are the same when it comes to health risks. Our doctors and nurses offer:

  • Personalised travel advice based on your destination
  • Vaccinations specific to your trip (including yellow fever)
  • Safety tips for travel to high-risk or conflict zones
  • Support for travellers with existing health conditions

Clinics like Glenfield, New Lynn, Lunn Ave, and Northmed offer comprehensive travel consults to get you ready to go.

Yellow fever: what you need to know

Planning a trip to Africa or South America? Some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination for entry. It’s a serious mosquito-borne disease, and a single shot gives you lifelong immunity—but you’ll need it at least 10 days before travel.

You can get your yellow fever vaccine at:

  • White Cross Lunn Ave (by appointment on Wednesdays with Dr Selim)
  • CityMed Medical Centre (available five days a week, often same-day)
